If you speak English and work in tech, engineering, or teaching, Debrecen is a genuinely viable job market — not a "well, it\'s cheaper" consolation prize. Salaries trail Budapest by about a quarter; rent and living costs trail by more, so take-home buying power can actually win. The catch is visibility: most roles aren\'t on the English sites you\'d expect, and a lot of hiring happens through direct applications and referrals.

Hungarian résumé expectations

Hungarian CVs differ from international norms. Conform where it matters:

  • Photo required. Professional headshot, light background.
  • Personal details. Full name, DOB, address, phone, email. Marital status is traditional though fading.
  • Length. 1–2 pages maximum.
  • References. Two professional referees are typical.
  • Order. Personal → Photo → Work → Education → Skills → References.
Pro tip: LinkedIn matters more than you\'d expect in IT and finance. Keep yours bilingual and current — it\'s often the first thing a recruiter checks.
